Magpie Swooping Season
Every year between August and November, magpies and plovers become more protective while raising their young.
It is important to stay alert wherever you go as it is not possible to place warning signs at every nesting site. You can help protect yourself by:
- Walking, not running, through affected areas
- Wearing a hat, helmet or sunglasses
- Using an umbrella if needed
If you do encounter a swooping bird, remember this behaviour is temporary. Swooping usually occurs within a 100-metre radius of the nest and lasts roughly six weeks.
Please stay alert, take precautions and be mindful of nesting birds during swooping season.
