Lockyer Valley Regional Council has welcomed 50 new Australian citizens at a special citizenship ceremony held in Laidley, marking an important milestone for local residents and their families.
The ceremony brought together people from a diverse range of backgrounds who proudly pledged their commitment to Australia and officially became Australian citizens.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Tanya Milligan said the ceremony at the Laidley Cultural Centre was a celebration of belonging, diversity and community connection.
“Becoming an Australian citizen is a significant and memorable milestone, and it was a privilege to welcome these new citizens to our community,” Mayor Milligan said.
“Citizenship ceremonies are some of the most rewarding events Council is privileged to host because they celebrate people, families and the communities they have chosen to call home.
“Each person has their own unique story, and together those stories help make our community richer, stronger and more vibrant.
“The Lockyer Valley is known for its strong sense of community and neighbourly spirit, and we're delighted to welcome these new Australians who have chosen to make this region their home.”
Mayor Milligan said becoming an Australian citizen was about belonging and building connections.
“For many people, this day represents the culmination of years of hard work, commitment and hope for the future,” she said.
“It's a chance to celebrate not only becoming Australian citizens but also becoming an even greater part of the community around them.”
The ceremony was conducted on behalf of the Australian Government and included the presentation of citizenship certificates to the new Australians.
Council congratulates all recipients and welcomes them as valued members of the Lockyer Valley community.
