Facelift for Gatton CBD footpaths
Maintenance works on a section of footpath in the Gatton CBD will soon get underway.
The works, as part of the Gatton Revitalisation Project, will be focused on a trial section along the frontage of the Royal Hotel in Crescent Street and Railway Street, as well as the frontage of the Supa IGA building (up to the pharmacy) on Railway Street.
Council's Mayor Tanya Milligan said the works would include cleaning and re-painting a 135-metre length of footpath.
Sections of the footpath will be closed during the works; however businesses will still have customer access.
Kerb parking around the specified site will be closed for each stage to ensure safe pedestrian access around the site.
We have held discussions with the impacted businesses and they are well aware, and supportive of the project.
I can assure businesses and customers that disruption will be minimised as much as possible and a safe, alternative pedestrian access will be provided.
We have also considered the impact these works will have on the taxi rank and parking for people with disabilities.
It is important, as a Council, that we can deliver these upgrades with as little impact to our businesses as possible and that is why parking will be provided in the form of temporary bays on adjoining sections of footpath, Mayor Milligan said.
Infrastructure Portfolio Chair Councillor Janice Holstein said for the first time, Council would test the type of treatment, a specialised paint suitable for footpaths, for its long-term durability and maintenance requirements.
This is the first stage of footpath improvements where we have implemented this and I'm confident it will lead to benefits and savings for ratepayers in the long-run, she said.
The program of works are expected to commence on Wednesday 3 August and be completed by the end of the following week, weather pending.
