Residents urged to register their dogs now
Lockyer Valley Regional Council's dog registration program is now underway.
To comply with the program, owners of all dogs currently kept at residences within the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area and more than 12 weeks of age must be registered with Council in accordance with the requirements of Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.
Animal Management Portfolio Councillor Jason Cook said animal complaints were costly to ratepayers.
I would strongly encourage residents to come into a Council office as soon as possible if your dog is currently not registered, in order to avoid a fine.
Presently, Council deals with around 500 animal complaint calls each and every month, which costs Council officers a considerable amount of time and money to manage.
"The inspection program will encourage animal owners to be responsible, which, we hope, will lead to fewer complaints about barking dogs or dog attacks, Cr Cook said.
The first part of the program will conclude on Monday 5 December 2016. The second will begin on Monday 30 January 2017 and complete no later than 28 April 2017 and be conducted between the hours of 8am and 5pm on business days only.
All residences within the Lockyer Valley Regional Council area will be included in the program.
Council representatives will be clearly identified by way of Lockyer Valley Regional Council Identification Documentation.
A copy of the resolution is available for inspection and may be obtained from Council at no cost.
