Major road maintenance program underway

Council has commenced a bitumen reseal and asphalt resurfacing program in selected locations.

These improvements will enhance rideability and safety for motorists and cyclists, and extend the road surface's lifespan, thereby reducing deterioration and the need for frequent maintenance.

The program is jointly funded by Council and the Australian Government through the Roads to Recovery Program.

Disposal of recalled coloured sand

Schools, early childhood centres and residents can now dispose of recalled coloured sand products free of charge at the Gatton Transfer Station on Fords Road until 18 February 2026.

Recalled coloured sand will be accepted at the Gatton Transfer Station ONLY.

To be accepted, the product/s must be:

• double wrapped in heavy-duty/thick plastic a minimum 0.2mm thick (damaged or open plastic wrapping will NOT be accepted); and
• taped closed and labelled ‘contains asbestos’

Upon arrival, please advise the gatehouse operator that you are disposing of recalled coloured sand so they can inspect the packaging and record the transaction.

The waste fee waiver only applies to educational establishments that can’t return the product, and not businesses that stock the product. Other businesses may be charged. It is already free for residents to dispose of recalled coloured sand.
