The Flood Information Portal (FIP) is a free tool that enables users to obtain specific flood data at selected points of interest on Lockyer Valley properties (where available), immediately.
About the Flood Information Portal
The Flood Information Portal (FIP) forms a critical part of Council's planning and assessment process and enables users to obtain specific flood data at points of interest on a selected property.
Available via a computer or laptop, the FIP is free to access and will generate an emailed report.
The report generated details the flood depth, velocity, flood hazard and intensity at a specific property in the Lockyer Valley. This information supports developers, engineers, builders and property owners to better understand flood behaviour on a property.
Providing Feedback
The Flood Information Portal provides an opportunity for the community to give feedback, whether on the flood data itself or how the portal functions.
Council welcomes feedback from all users. Feedback on the portal's performance and data will be reviewed at intervals to inform ongoing updates and improvements.
Design Rainfall Resolution Adopted
At its Ordinary Meeting on 15 April 2026, Lockyer Valley Regional Council adopted Resolution No. 24-28/0542, endorsing a new approach to estimating rainfall data used for flood modelling across the Lockyer Valley. After reviewing several rainfall datasets, an independent study found that no single rainfall dataset was the most accurate in every location. As a result, Council adopted an approach that uses the higher rainfall value from two leading datasets, LIMB2020 and QRA2025, to provide more reliable flood estimates in flood modelling.
This decision will help improve the accuracy of future flood studies, flood maps, and flood risk assessments. Better rainfall information supports safer planning, infrastructure design, and a better understanding of flood behaviour across the Lockyer Valley.
Council also resolved to update its planning policies to reflect the new rainfall criteria and will use the new rainfall approach in the next stage of its flood risk management project. The aim is to ensure decisions about development, infrastructure, and community safety are based on the best available information.
Local Floodplain Management Plan
An action out of the Brisbane River Catchment Flood Study and Brisbane River Strategic Floodplain Management Plan if for each local government within the Brisbane River Floodplain is required to develop a local floodplain management plan (or LFMP).
The Lockyer Valley Local Floodplain Management Plan 2024 (LFMP) is a high-level management plan that assists Council and the community to understand the intricacies of floodplain management. Combining our existing information, mitigation and resilience measures, and taking a risk-based approach to land use planning, the LFMP views floodplain management through five guiding principles and set out actions to build Council’s, and the region’s, prevention, preparedness, response and recovery capability.
Flood Search by Council
Lockyer Valley Regional Council has a flood information search available for a nominated property.
Submit your request by completing a Request for Development Information Form, nominating a location on the property and paying the required fee.

Flood Modelling Data Files
Council’s Flood Modelling Data can be obtained through a Data Licence Licence. This is generally only required by professional engineers who are required to undertake further flood modelling for a specific development. It is recommended Council be contacted prior to requesting this data to ensure it is appropriate for your needs. There is a fee associated with access to this data.
